The Passado Composto gallery was founded in 1988 in São Paulo, gathering decorative arts from different periods and origins. Since 2002, its collection has been divided into two addresses: Passado Composto, at Rua da Consolação, presents pieces from the 18th to the 20th centuries and contemporary designed chandeliers with Brazilian stones; while Passado Composto Século XX, at Alameda Lorena, specializes in modern Brazilian furniture.

In 2009, the SEMPRE MODERNOS Forever Modern exhibition, held at Alameda Lorena and curated by Adélia Borges, marked the disposition of the gallery in focusing its collection in our favorite modern designers: Joaquim Tenreiro, Sergio Rodrigues, Jorge Zalszupin, and Jean Gillon. In 2010 the gallery started a collaboration with the pioneer eco-designer Pedro Petry, by presenting his unique creations using fallen down trees and limited-series pieces, executed with certified wood.

The gallery also offers pieces from many different modernist Brazilian designers such as Alexandre Rapoport, Ernesto Hauner, Geraldo de Barros, Giancarlo Palanti, Giuseppe Scapinelli, Lina Bo Bardi, Lucio Costa, Michel Arnoult, Oscar Niemeyer, Sergio Bernardes, and Zanine Caldas; as well as from manufactures such as Branco & Preto, Cantú, Celina, Fátima Decorações, L Atelier, Mobilinea S/A, Mobília Contemporânea, and Unilabor. The gallery has an exclusive representation in Brazil for designer Bruno Mathsson, chosen as the Best Swedish Designer in the 20th Century for his light and ergonomic pieces of furniture made of laminated wood.

Since 2009, the gallery has also been enthusiastically dedicating itself to contemporary photography exhibiting the works of Brazilian photographers such as Leonardo Kossoy, Fernando Azevedo, and Valdir Cruz. The gallery also has in its collection unique works, engravings and sculptures by artists who marked their times such as Abraham Palatnik, Almir Mavignier, Burle Marx, Cláudio Tozzi, Eduardo Sued, Kazuo Wakabayashi, Lothar Charoux, Milton Dacosta, Newton Mesquita, Niobe Xandó, Odetto Guersoni, Regina Silveira, Roberto Moriconi, and Yutaka Toyota.

Handmade tapestries developed in various techniques are part of the colorful vibe of the gallery - many among them are signed by renowned and awarded master weavers such as Genaro de Carvalho, Jean Gillon, Kennedy Bahia, and Norberto Nicola. Chandeliers and objects from the 50s, 60s, and 70s compose the modern and pop decoration of the gallery s rooms.

A pleasant inner vertical garden integrates nature to the architecture and charms visitors with its tropical variety of plants, giving them their welcome to the space.

PASSADO COMPOSTO SECULO XX at the 1st DESIGN SÃO PAULO 2011

The Passado Composto Seculo XX lead the atmosphere of the gallery to the 1st Design São Paulo. In its stand by 80m², were exposed rare antique furniture , made of hardwood (almost extinguished nowadays), conceived by important designers as Joaquim Tenreiro, Sergio Rodrigues, Jorge Zalszupin and Jean Gillon.

To mark the beginning of new sustainable design projects in a partnership with the pioneer eco-designer Pedro Petry, the gallery presented his unique creations, made with fallen trees, and pieces of limited edition, made with certified wood. The setting gained brightness thanks to the preciosities in lightning, created by the newly assumed designer Cida Santana, precursor of the mark Passado Composto. The scenery was shelted by the folding screen, made with recycled rosewood wainscoting and created by the artist and designer Rodrigo Bueno, who also signed the scenography. The coloured atmosphere was guaranteed by the exhibition of handmade tapestries, signed by famous weavers as Genaro de Carvalho, Jean Gillon e Norberto Nicola.
